Igniting strength, shaping inspiration

"A captivating realm of a refugee artist whose creations traverse borders and encapsulate the spirit of resilience. Harem witnessed the horrors of his town's chemical attack as a child. Growing up in a refugee camp, he turned to art as a language to express the silent suffering of children in war's wake. His work reflects global tragedies, a testament to the strength of those who endure.Harem's art offers a glimpse of hope amidst the turmoil. He transformed his creativity into a shield against a terrifying reality. Join us in celebrating the artistic journey that resonates with individuals worldwide, fostering understanding, compassion, and unity."

Looking Back
The Cultch Gallery, Vancouver, BC July 2022
War took my childhood, and my life was filled with uncertainty and fear. Since I had no toys, drawing was my entertainment and salvation and I lived inside my imagination. Drawing what I lived through continues to be my salvation.
Seeking Safety
Deer Lake Gallery, Burnaby, BC | Feb 2023
The plight of children who are displaced from countries ravaged by war is my subject matter.
They are in a sense portraits of my students.Seeking Safety is an intimate look at the trauma I experienced fleeing genocide in my youth.

About
Harem Tahir
Imagine being born into a world marked by tragedy. I came into this world in Halabja, Kurdistan, just as it was being torn apart by a devastating Iraqi regime bombing, which claimed 5,000 lives in mere hours. My early years were defined by war and displacement, with my family and I enduring over nine years in refugee camps.Yet, amidst the chaos, art became my refuge and a lifeline for those around me, helping us all cope with our turbulent reality. Now, let's fast forward. I pursued my passion relentlessly, earning a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art and becoming a respected member of Kurdistan's art scene. I've showcased my work in 40 exhibitions, including 8 solo shows, and even had a documentary win at the MENA Film Festival in Vancouver, Canada.Today, I'm here to share my art and its transformative power with you.Join me on this inspiring journey to support my work, and together, let's create a brighter world through the magic of art.
